JAZZ & CABARET 2023

Jazz & Cabaret returns!

The beloved annual tradition continues, with visiting professional artists offering workshops to our community—classes begin January 9th–with gala performances January 19th & 20th! Visit Tickets or call 907-225-4792 to register. See list of classes below!

Great American Songbook

Workshop Instructor: Nicki Denner

MWF: January 8, 10, 12, 15, & 17, 2024

5:30pm-7:30pm

Classic, long-beloved songs from the pantheon of revered American  singers and songwriters, these are the American standards of jazz,  Broadway, movie musicals, and early popular music. Ranging primarily  from the early- to mid-20th century, these memorable tunes from the  likes of Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, Duke Ellington, and many others  are easy to learn and hard to forget, giving plenty of room for new  arrangements and interpretations.

Class is limited to 8 participants.

Participants under the age of 16 will only sing at the Gala Performances with instructor and parental permission.

Please note that participants in the Great American Songbook and Just Jazz are asked to choose songs from the jazz repertoire. We have a list of  appropriate songs available, or the FCP artistic director is available to give you assistance. Because of limited class time, all participants are strongly urged to make song selections prior to their first session.

REFUND POLICY: Cancellations before January 9th will be refunded all but 10% of registration fee. There will be no refunds after January 10th.

Unplugged (and Stripped Down)

MWF @ 5:30pm with Matt King - January 9, 11, 13, 16, & 18, 2023
Final Rehearsal: Thursday, January 19, 2023
Perform Friday, January 20 or Saturday, January 21

Remember MTV Unplugged? In this class you’ll choose your favorite “big” song, and then you and Matt will strip it down to the bare bones. With that stripped-down melody, you’ll decide in what style you want to sing it—maybe reggae? Swing? If it’s an upbeat song, maybe you make it a ballad—or vice versa? The world is your oyster! THEN, once a style is set, Matt will decide with your input what additional instruments will be used to accompany you, and you can perform this song as uniquely your own and in a way never heard before!

Class is limited to 8 participants.

Participants under the age of 16 will only sing at the Gala Performances with instructor and parental permission.

REFUND POLICY: Cancellations before January 9th will be refunded all but 10% of registration fee. There will be no refunds after January 10th.

Have  a song that’s a bit outside the box? Can you not make the MWF workshops? Was the class you wanted booked before you had a chance to register? If  you didn’t find what you were hoping for in the other offered workshops, or if the one you had hoped for sold out, this is the end-all, be-all, catch-all workshop for you.

Class is limited to 12 participants/groups.

Participants under the age of 16 will only sing at the Gala Performances with instructor and parental permission.

Please note that participants in the Great American Songbook and Just Jazz are asked to choose songs from the jazz repertoire.
